Prelude
Being a role model, I never asked for this job and yet I have to step up into the shoes. It's a responsibility thing I suppose I am flattered that Blake thinks so much of me, yet at the same time Ramone thinks so little. I remember them two, good kids but from different sides of the tracks. I tried to save that poor little girl Angel, she is almost my daughter's age.
Alayna having her baby, that damn kid Adam reminds me a lot of Blake, how long before he hurts my baby? I love Alayna I don't want anything to ever hurt her, nobody can love her the way I do. I tried to fight it, but even that baby she had it reminds me of a time I was happy, maybe I am happy again? If I could just remember the real feeling of happiness, not glory from winning matches, or from defending my honor as the Serpentine Fiend not pride, but joy. My little pride and joy, she is all that is left of anything good that I used to be.
--- Scene 1 :
- A Confessed Secret ---
Steven: "Do you see that constellation Alayna? That's your daddy, someday the gods might be so pleased with your story on Earth that they paint your portrait in the sky."
Steven Pierce held his new born daughter and pointed up at the night sky, his girlfriend Lisa Erickson was asleep. Looking at this child made him feel so mortal, and so small something that Steven never believed in a future. He mentored various people here and there never once considering the impact he'd hold on the future, now inside this girl he held a tie to that generation.
As the forty four year old looks up at the sky in present date, he sees many stars in the sky and sighs. Steven was a nobody and should stay that way he was Drake Diamond now, in a way he watched Blake transform and it inspired him. He is the IWS eXtinction champion, the only thing past him is the Universe. He'd felt so guilty for years over this or that and he would drink to forget the pain. He was a drug pusher because it paid for his addictions, the street racing, the boozing, the parties with admires. He tried to bury himself in the fast pace to forget that he missed his daughter or that he missed Lisa. He sits back on the hillside the snow surrounding him, he lifted a bottle of his favorite beer and smirked.
Drake: "Well Draco, here is to another year, I went ten years sober, I checked myself in several hospitals and rehab centers over the years, I even took anger management... but well it's just you and me again. OH ... I got myself a granddaughter now. Katelyn Jade Highland. She is a Metal Rabbit, and a Sagittarius... I remember dealing with them, very lively people."
He paused as he thought to himself alone on the hillside, earlier that day he was doing good. Only a week without slipping back to the bottle, but then after his granddaughter was born it all piled on top of him again. He took another drink of his beer to wash away more of the memories that hurt to think about.
We see Drake walking into the room and seen his brother Lance, and his brother's old girlfriend Michelle Dawson sitting next to one another. Lance has been fighting throat cancer for over a year now and just hit remission. Drake's throat started to swell as he thought he was going to hear the worst, that his oldest brother's cancer returned.
Lance Sr: "Hey Steve."
He nodded in return greeting Michelle and Lance. He looked over and seen even Lisa his baby's daughter was here. This all the sudden started to feel like an intervention, but he's been sober!
Drake: "Don't call me that, you know I rather be Drake now."
Lance Sr:"Yes I know, my bad. You still going to be my Steven even if you are the all powerful Serpentine Fiend and IWS eXtinction champion."
Lance chuckled a little, but the two females were tense and Drake can sense that about them.
Drake: "Mind telling me what this is all about?"
He looked over everyone's faces and both women didn't seem to be able to find their tongues to speak.
Lance Sr:"Well, we all talked about it and as freaked out as Junior has been with my illness, I told Michelle and Lisa it was about time you and him found out."
Drake:"Found out what?"
Drake asked quickly he hates surprises and secrets and that's what this was starting to feel like. This was it the worst thing that could happen losing his big brother. Michelle tugged on Lance's shoulder and spoke up as she shook her head.
Michelle: "Lance isn't our son..."
She looked down feeling a little ashamed that she had to admit it, he was such a hard boy to raise and she had to do it herself most of his life with how busy Lance and the brothers were.
Michelle: "I just..."
Lance sighed and looked at his brother as Michelle's voice cracked from what she was admitting.
Lance Sr:"We tried to have a baby, you remember?"
He paused and thought about it the doctors said that Michelle wasn't able to have children after some student had attacked her and caused damage. Drake looked at them, Michelle was very hurt by this, Lance was rubbing her back. From the corner of his eye though the only person Drake's concerned about is Lisa, who is trying and quite well, to be like a stone. Drake nodded a little as he looked at his brother.
Drake: "Yeah, and then you suddenly had Junior it was a miracle in a way. I remember that what was Mike always said about the kid, he said he looks more like Lisa and me then Alayna seems to."
Drake chuckled and then paused and looked at Lisa, then at Lance. Neither of them seemed to crack a grin, in fact it almost seemed like he was hitting closer to the truth, he slowly felt rage consume him thinking his brother and girlfiend must have had a thing on the side. Lance was always on injury leave, and he wanted a baby very badly. It made a lot of sense specially since that was when Drake had been on the road all the time.
Drake:"I see... So he is your boy huh? Well,..."
Drake's face grew cold to hide the fact he was feeling the sting of hurt. Lance looked at Lisa and then at Drake's eyes and shook his head, he already knew the images his brother Drake was imagining of him and Lisa together.
Lance Sr:"Well you half right..."
Lance leaned on his hand, he knew this had to be confusing his brother, him and Michelle were only here for moral support. Drake sat back feeling confused, how can he only be half right? He was happy he sat down before all this because the room was starting to spin. Lisa to this day is the only woman he has ever slept with, how could he have a son, she only ever gave birth to Alayna.
Lisa:"He's your son."
Lisa said, Drake sat there shell shocked and blinking. I have a son? That's my boy? Slowly he felt like his eyes were welling up, he stood up swiftly and turned around.
Drake:"I-I see... I got to think..."
He walked into the dark hallway and to the back door. Lisa turned around and walked the other way and Michelle patted Lance on the hand and then got up to go after her best friend Lisa. Lance sat there in his wheelchair rubbing his head, he remembered finding out that Lance wasn't his son, he remembered how both Michelle and Lisa swore him not to tell. All these years he watched Drake with Lance and knew the two got along better, they even looked more alike.
Back on the hilltop Drake finished his bottle of beer and was now spinning the bottle with himself as he had been telling this story out loud to the air.
Drake: "So that's what happen Draco my friend. She took away my baby girl and she took away my son, what a woman... but still did you ever think I'd have a boy, and a son that I know hardly anything about, I didn't plan for him. Alayna was planned, I wanted a little princess I wanted to be somebody's knight in shinning armor. I hated not being around my girl, I hated how people made cat calls at her and whistled. I would punch anyone's lights out for just looking at her with an evil thought... it was stupid, I thought... I guess I thought that a little girl would love me. I already seen how Junior hated his poppa. I felt so happy when Angel called me Daddy, I know it was only a game but it made me feel strong, and important and now look at me... such a pathetic excuse huh. haha. Oh Well."
Drake sat up and looked at the title belt laying across his lap, it was like the souls of the lost screaming for his help. He remembered a boy named George that lost his brother John, he remembered how he cried like a little baby. Don't cry, men don't cry, would Blake Archer cry? That was the kid's weakness, Blake Archer. John was a good kid, he was the loud one, he was the one that got in trouble and was bullheaded to a fault. George was the same, but so quiet he was bullied so bad that unless John had stopped people the poor kid would have just let it happen not knowing how to defend himself. Drake scratched his head, Mike was loud and got in trouble a lot and he was the quiet brother. He felt a tear roll down his face as he thought about those times and how he'd never have more with his baby brother. He had been trying to redeem himself by saving George's soul, if that was possible then perhaps there is hope for himself. He won this title, and he felt like Blake might have a change to finally escape his demons. He changed his name, he went through the same process as him. Blake Archer is just what he set out to be, a legend. Nothing more and nothing less.
Drake: "Ya know, I heard Mary Jane checked that boy out of the hospital... good four walls is no place for that boy. His wife filed divorce for incurable insanity, poor bastard not his fault, but it not her fault either she was young and so was he. They never had anyone to be there for them,..."
He let out a long exhale and continued to think about the simularties of Alayna's situation to Archer's. Drake wondered if Adam would grow up the same way this boy had? Would Alayna be able to handle that? She says she is in love with Adam, but she thought she had to have Shane Trudex as well. Drake chuckled a little, Lisa thought she was rid of him and yet she was staying at the Ranch the very place she told him she'd never step foot on.
Drake: "I guess there is always hope, ya just have to have your eyes open."
--- Scene 2 :
- Now Hope is worth fighting for ---
Drake Diamond arrived at the warehouse early after his night of drinking till he passed out. A lot of things were coming out of his closet he never even knew were in there. This must be payback for all the bad things he's ever done. He got out of his truck and entered the Warehouse, he wanted to see if he could catch anyone around. The renovations to the place were going on and the works stopped to whisper and chatter. They are drug addicts that Dax Clark easily can convince to work for him, they are poor lost souls, but they know no other life and it is cruel to expect them to Drake thinks. A part of him wondered if a Paroxysm was among these men, or perhaps a Dorian Blake? He continued to walk past everyone till reaching a door that lead to the stairs. He went into it and went down them till he started to hear the chug of the boiler, he froze and listened. He figured as much, he heard a person down there. Drake stopped at the door clearly labeled 'BROILER ROOM' he looked at the letter in his hand and then put the envelope down. Drake took a deep breath and knocked then jolted up the steps, he got to a safe position before stopping to listen. He heard the door creak open and he pictured it.
A hooded figure with long black hair and ghostly white hands reaching from under the long black cloak trimmed in red. He imagined how the person's head probably turned to the left and right and looked for a sign that somebody was watching all while still keeping their identity hidden. Drake smiled slightly as he heard the door shut and then a heavy latch locking it. Drake stood up as he imagined the raspy voice reading the letter as he exited the place.
Dearest One,
I have not forgotten you nor will I ever. I realize what you did and I will carry it to my grave for the sake of keeping the peace. I may never be able to repay you or take back the crimes I have committed against your honor, all I can hope is that you accept my apology and will find it in your heart to forgive me. I have taken your name in hope that the honor I gain under it will restore your faith in me. You never gave up on me even when I gave up on myself, you never cut me off even when I did to you. We are not brothers, we are not sisters we are beyond all that. I head into Seasons Beatings not for my family alone, but for your family, and the families that have fallen to despair. I am heading into this battle of first blood for a girl that is hidden behind the eyes of an Angel and wishes nothing for this world but love. For anyone that had a dream they gave up on, or for anyone forced to just settle because at the end of the day that's all they could do to stay happy. This is for you and for me, this is for us. I am not a champion alone, I am a champion with everyone that dreams of me being so. Thank you for all of the things you do Mr. Lockheart.
Sincerely,
'The Serpentine Fiend' Drake Diamond
Drake walks to his truck now outside the warehouse parking lot. He was going to have a long drive to Minnesota from here. He looked at his right as he entered the truck and shut the door. There was his championship waiting for him, he smiled and patted it lightly as if a pet. Drake felt a huge weight that was released off of his chest, he had two children, and a grandchild, an older brother. Even Drake's ex girlfriend was sticking around him lately all he wants is people to feel the same way he does.
Drake: "Good show old girl, now we got a bunch of Purple and yellow people eaters to teach about eXtinction."
He started his truck and then put it into gear as the vehichle jerked and then he drove away.
Epilogue
I do not expect to be forgiven, I just want a chance to prove I am sincerely sorry. If that is too much to ask then just say so, I am a big boy and my feelings will recover. You'd think that I'd be the one that wants to give Blake advise, but in the end he was the one that taught me. All his life he wanted that Universe title and he gave up everything for it only to have five minuets to savor it. I was pushing him toward it, back when he was a rookie until his wife finally left him. I never meant for him to become a Drake Jr, it just happened. Please forgive me Blake, I never meant to smother your soul, I just couldn't see myself drowning and how I pulled everything down with me. Now I see that even when times look dark, it is a father's responsibly to keep them lite. I believe in the world, I believe in my own faith in humanity. People have to be good, even if they are evil there is a purpose to them and that purpose is to motivate the good.
The Sandman, it is a great thing he came along otherwise where would I be? I would be fighting in some mundane match, and fighting for a championship full of selfishness and desperation. Now I have something to fight for, it was the same thing my buddy was fighting for, hope. The eXtinction title is a symbol of becoming pure nothingness and then from that is born a new being. Drake Diamond is the personification of that process, I became nothing hit rock bottom and then returned to be a new man, and finally claimed my crown. I am the Serpentine Fiend and the IWS eXtinction champion. I already fear my dreams, but it's about time that The Sandman admits his fear, the fact that he is human and at Seasons Beatings when he is left bloody and broken he will have no choice but to realize we are all the same and I am just a cut above the rest.
Being a role model, I never asked for this job and yet I have to step up into the shoes.
