We see Maxine’s daughter Tabitha speaking on the phone. “Yeah she is here, I don’t want to ask her why can’t you? Well I want to be with Nikki, but I don’t want to be with Aunt Ruth, I just don’t like spending time with her she… she is boring and she never lets us do anything. All she does is sit around and stare off into the distance. I think she had post partum depression from the twins and never treated it because the English are weird and they don’t seem to ever think mental illness is real or needs treated. What if she just snaps?”
“Nikki knows my number if she needs something.”
Tabitha looked at her own mother from behind a door she was talking to her brother. He had offered to pay for her to go to Japan to train. He offered the same to Nikki, but she couldn’t go because her mother wouldn’t let the twins go and they begged their sister to stay with them.
“I know the British are different, look at what happen to Blake, and our mother. Both spent their lives trying to get her to open up and all she did was manage to drain the life out of them. I know it’s not easy for you, which is why I think you should get away for a bit. Nikki chooses her own way you should choose your own.”
She thought for a moment, she liked paying attention to IWS things, but Adam McGavin had kidnapped her and her mother had instead just made a calm deal with him to get her and Nikki released. Why hadn’t she been angry? Why hadn’t she been more of a war path to get them both back? Aunt Ruth hadn’t even tried to care about getting back at the guy or teaching him a lesson. Now Nikki was addicted to Heroin, but only Tabitha knows this. Her sister kept going through bad withdraws and Tabitha had been going through the same. “I do want to go; I want to learn like you did.”
She hung up the phone and worked up the nerve to go speak to her mother. She usually was overly protective of her, and she never let her out of her sight. After the incident though her mother had only seemed concerned with Aunt Ruth. “Mama, uh Jesse said he is paying for me to go to Japan and train. I don’t want to go with Aunt Ruth. Please don’t make me.”
Maxine stared out the window smirking, she listens to the birds chip happy and the sound of the migrating ducks and geese. “That’s fine sweetie. Just be careful you are fifteen and only a young woman.”
Tabitha nodded and walked out of the room. Maxine didn’t understand mortals, she had heard Trent he didn’t hear her. She said she was mistaken thinking he attacked Dresden yet he was still claiming she knew nothing of what came out of her mouth. He was a double champion, he was with Katherine Brock. Yet Maxine can tell that Trent is not a real man. A real man knows when to shut up and the time for talking is over, Trent is nothing more than a sissy boy that thinks he is some he-man. She let out a light breath she didn’t feel like shooting any promos to talk to him, if she had something to say she was going to say it in the ring. A kick to the Achilles tendon and Mr. Brown wouldn’t get back up, a shot to the groin and he’d be on his knees. He doesn’t scare her he doesn’t impress her, all he impresses is himself and apparently Katherine.
Why didn’t Tabitha want to take off with Ruth she wondered? It had reminded her of the call from Nikki she didn’t want to go either, but she was because the twins were being forced to. Maxine has people in her life she doesn’t have to have her lips locked to a person or playing bedroom tag. That was for younger days.
“Dark knights follow a code, and your code is nothing but hypocrisy. Raven can tell you about that more than I can. I am not a God fearing person, Trent is. Raven knows I care about my life; the only thing about Raven I care about is that he finds happiness. He is not stupid like this idiot seems to be. He talks and talks thinking he is some amazing Marc Anthony, if that is true then I can play Brutus. Brutus loved Rome, true he killed and betrayed his friend and Emperor, but with the hope of a stronger Rome. Raven and I have a hope of a better world. I don’t have to follow God, I don’t have to believe a single thing Trent says. I am always alone I don’t care I hate being surrounded by the weight of the forsaken. I do miss Sara, but she has started mailing me letters. When something is lost it comes back to me, just like Kat seems to keep falling into the arms of a man that she is too good for.” Maxine clicked her tongue talking to herself, she paused and thought. His words made no sense almost like Trent had been hit on the head; she had heard many people speak like he does. They made fun of the skinny girl for being too thin, the pale girl for being too white, they called her ugly. Trent keeps striking her as nothing more than a bully who thinks he is right in the eyes of his God.
She got up and walked over to the running phone and picked it up. One the other end was Malory Yassky. “Max, I talked to the board of directors about that match you want. I have made them a deal, you win this match and you go it, anything you ask for.”
Maxine felt like grunting, why was there always a catch 22? That was life though you have to overcome mountain after mountain. She remembered the funeral she had gone to and the three little boys that were left behind along with the widow. The oldest had to only be five years old. He told his mother that he wanted to wake up daddy. The mother had only handed him to the grandmother and ran off to cry alone.
Was being alone such a bad thing? Why does Trent Brown seem to think it is? She shook her head and slowly answered Malory. “I’ll do whatever it takes, if I don’t get this match. I am going to have to start pulling down the curtain.”
“I know we’ll make it happen, you should talk to your partner Raven. This match is a have to win…”
“Raven can do what he wants, I don’t order him around. It bothers me that you and the rest of the world seem to think so.” She stopped herself, Raven knew how she felt about him and the rest of the world shouldn’t matter. Everyone thinks they are right even if they are dead wrong.
The scene fades to black and reopens on a light haired woman sitting in a chair, her legs were missing. Her body has several fishing hooks stuck into them and she scrams in pain as the sedative wears away. She looks around panicked and the look of how the fuck did I get here crosses her face. Lights jump on and there in front of her looks like a dead man almost identical to the former Supreme Being Blake Archer.
Maxine had watched these two, on the outside there were a perfect couple, but behind closed doors he would beat her. She was a famous doctor and he was a washed up high school sports star. She carried this man’s habits of drinking and drugs; she had quietly endured his jealous beatings and never strikes back. Maxine had hear Trent, but hadn’t really cared he thinks he knows her, but that’s just something he dreamed up. Raven knows Maxine, Sara knows Maxine other than that nobody else honestly can know what goes through the ever changing and ticking mind of the Black Widow.
Maxine over a speaker: “Hello ****, I want to play a game…you claim to love this man in front of you. He beats you till you are begging for mercy, why do you never strike back at him? You are probably thinking he is dead, how do you feel thinking that? Part of you is happy because you’ll never get beat again, but then there is another part that fears being alone, that fears not being loved. Part of you is made that you never got to tell him what a jackass he was, I promise you he is still alive. I have never met you, and yet I have set this up because I love you. A man once placed me in a device and challenged me for my life; I had to take a life to same mine. I had to wake up to reality and get stuff for myself. You went to school, you worked to get your status, yet he plummeted into a leach after high school. Selfish one might say, but it’s the will to live that should make you work for what you get. I did what I had to do; God turns his eyes away from evil, so he will not see any act that you must do. We are after all only put here like every other creature.”
The man sat up, and screamed loudly as he realized that he was attached to his smaller girlfriend. He also had fishing hooks in him and the strings were attached to this woman. He stood up and shouted at her. “You bitch!”
He stood up and wobbled as he went for her, but she jumped out of the chair accidently pulling a hook out of her body and screaming as she crumpled to her knees.
Maxine again: “I would assume that is the sound of your boyfriend George. Mr. B you drink your life away and beat on your girlfriend for what reasons? You are mad she is a well accomplished doctor and you amounted to nothing after high school? Each of you hold the key to the other’s freedom. You are attached to each other because you choose to do so, not because you have to. I am offering you both what you have always known, you are the end to the other’s means. This room will forever be locked in an hour, the combination is in the back of your minds. Will **** do what she always does and sit there and take it? What about you George in front of the eyes of another will you hurt her? If you desire to live and break free from the clinging worthlessness of your partner then you’ll rip away your strings and take a step out the door. Live or die, make your choice.”
On the wall a new digital clock counted down from 60 minuets.
****: “please we can do this together.”
George: “No!”
He grabbed a handful of strings and tugged hard on them, a few fishing hooks ripped out of the woman. She screamed and cried as she looked at him with a why look. He walked closer to her.
George: “Hold still!”
He grabbed for more stings and she kicked him in the knee. Then stood up and ripped some strings from him. He shouted loudly and did the same. She jumped back releasing herself from him. He looked down and ripped out the last that was left and then went after her. He still had to get the code to the large door. The girl caught him running at her and seen how the back of his head had been shaved and felt the back of her own realizing she had the same. She shook from fright and looked trying to focus on the numbers tattooed on his head. 612, she ran over to the door and heard him get up and grab the chair she had been in. She just managed to get out of the way as he swung the chair at her, she seen a different door and ran over punching in the code. Lucky for her it worked and opened, she rushed out as he ran for her and slammed the door in his face as the timer ran out and locked him in. She heard him shout at her and slam the chair against the door. She fell to the floor and then to the floor weeping, she knew he’d die in there. She had been the reason he was going to die.
From a different location Maxine rubbed her chin as she watched the cameras and seen the woman crying. She slightly chuckled and spoke to herself. “If they only would have turned for the other to read the other’s mind, it must be human nature to not turn your back to another. Alright Sprit if that’s what you really want then I will turn by back to you. Trent is wrong I am not afraid of being alone like Blake was. I had to hire AJ Riot to burn him because Riot was like this girl. Time after time Blake beats others into submission and he had hired me long ago to murder you in cold blood, but I didn’t. Instead Sara Sullivan made me realize that the most perfect thing about life is nature. Animals kill and fight without caring if they hurt another. Trent can say God this and God that, all that is going to do is piss God off. Get your ass up and be a man for one. Don’t beg him for forgiveness you haven’t earned, don’t say oh may God have mercy. I have met God and honestly I’m not surprised at what I met. He killed his own son, what type of role model is that? Do not murder, but I shall set my son up for death. God doesn’t make mistakes, but he is also not this completely good entity. I don’t want a religious battle, I just want the truth.”
She pushed her chair backwards and wheeled across the way to the door and grabbed her cloak. If Mr. Brown knew anything about life then he wouldn’t be trying to get into the head of somebody he claims is nothing. Maxine smirked. “Of course I am nothing, because that is why you seem to feel the need to personally attack me. Try again smartass…Don’t worry, the wind tends to hear your abomination of words, you are the God fearing man, not me. All I am going to do is my job, and that’s beat the shit out of another bull headed man. It’s all in a day’s work. Raven wants these titles, I want these titles and both of us are going to work for them… unlike this pathetic couple. I trust Raven and he trusts me, I don’t have to fight against him, I don’t have to worry about anything but getting the job done.”
Maxine put the cloak around her and pulled up the hood, she looked around the place and the monitors. This what who she used to be, and now she has came full circle... what started with a young boy and his interest in testing limits has turned into his own awakening. Now the only person left to wake up Maxine was just going to let come to her. “I’m with Raven, nobody else matters. We’re a team and nothing else is true.”
She sparked a match and tossed it in the room as it hit the floor and started to spear rather quickly. She stood there taking a breath. “My job here is done and now I have another. Staring with winning the tag team titles with The Anti-Christ, not a big bull or his little lady is going to change that.”
